Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner! To go along with your Cinco de Mayo unit, create this festive classroom decoration. Read books about Cinco de Mayo and teach the children a few basic developmentally appropriate Spanish words related to Cinco de Mayo. For very young kids, this can simply be the words Cinco, Mayo, and Fiesta. Ask older students to write a few sentences about what they know about Cinco de Mayo. Glue each child’s narrative on an individual sheet of green, red, or yellow construction paper.

Next, kids can make mariachi guitars for the bulletin board. To make the guitars, you'll need:

  • Craft foam in yellow, green, red, and brown
  • Black marker
  • White string
  • White craft glue
  • Scissors

The instructions for making the guitars and be found at Kaboose and they're a blast to create! If you have younger kids, you can assemble the guitasr for them and then have the kids decorate them with stickers or other embellishments.

Cover the bulletin board in colorful paper, then attach each child’s guitar and his Cinco de Mayo facts.
